Big-hearted Carrington Dean fundraisers showed their boots were made for walking as they took on the Kiltwalk 2021.
Generous staff raised an incredible £5,072.60 after their efforts were matched by Chairman Pearse Flynn.
The Carrington Dean funds were then topped up by a further 50% by The Hunter Foundation bringing the total to £7,608.90 to support Shelter and the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
Walkers spanned Scotland in epic challenge
Each taking their own route as part of the virtual event, and dressed to kilt, the team’s efforts spanned Scotland with walkers heading to The Kelpies and Balloch in the mammoth charity challenge.
Walking from Ibrox to Balloch, Carrington Dean event organiser Steve Alison is delighted to have been able to take part in his second Kiltwalk despite it being such a challenging year.
“It was an incredible weekend. The support from the team and the wider company has been amazing and we’re all delighted that we’ve been able to raise money for two very deserving charities,” he revealed.
“It’s been a tough year not only for charities but also for the team as we’ve all worked from home during the pandemic, so it was nice to have a bit of comradery on the day albeit virtually.
“I’m already looking forward to next year!”
Traditional fundraising goes virtual to raise £6 million
As the coronavirus pandemic put paid to traditional fundraising efforts, Kiltwalk organisers were forced to adapt to support charities at a time when they’ve been hit hardest.
Now in its second virtual year, 11,500 people took part in the Kiltwalk 2021 raising £6.1 million for 1,055 charities.
People across Scotland answered Sir Tom Hunter’s call to arms as he asked people to “take his money” ahead of the weekend-long event from April 23-25.
In a video message, Sir Tom Hunter said: “At Scotland’s time of need, when the charities you care about really need you, you stepped up and there is not a prouder Scotsman on the planet.
“From the bottom of my heart, to all of you, thank you for your Kiltwalk Kindness.”
